Amping Up For Fall With Book Clubs, Scarves, Comfort Food and Fall Cleaning

Fall may very well be my favorite season of the year. Yes, I know it's not quite fall yet, but it's swiftly approaching and while I take in the last days of summer with 80 degree heat, I'm daydreaming of mild scarf weather, book clubs and journal writing.
So I went shopping.

Culpepper Books, sellers of fine, used, rare and out of print books
2521 North Proctor, Tacoma

I ADORE, the smell, look and feel of a book. There's no e-book that will ever match the feeling of opening up a good read. Never, ever.
Culpepper Books is a gem in the Proctor District FULL of books for all tastes and occassions (and the owners are delightful and knowledgable).  I've given a book club a good shot a couple different times and decided that with shorter days and cooler weather, it was time to give it another go with a focus on local authors. Tom Robbins is local and established and seemed a good starting point.
Culpepper Books had Skinny Legs and All. I snagged it.

Unrelated to local shopping and not all at the same time. INSIDE my used book from Culpepper Books was an old ticket stub. Billy Joel, 1990, Tacoma Dome. Pretty rad I think.

Nine Lives Vintage Wears
3013 6th Avenue, Suite A, Tacoma

Nine Lives Vintage is the bees knees! Owner Kristi Coyne doesn't just stock up on snazzy vintage duds but loads of local art can be found there as well as uber cute tube socks and recently a beautiful collection of scarves.
Scarves and Hats are my favorite thing about fall....aside from pumpkin flavored EVERYTHING, nom.

I had to snag this super comfy, orange scarf with 3 buttons. Too cute.

The things others are doing that I daydream of. This DIY journal is neat-o....and if you're like me and don't make time for cute projects such as these, you can find your very own at Nine Lives Vintage or go straight to the source at Millesime Designs!

Dirty Oscar's Annex (a.k.a DOA)
2309 6th Avenue, Tacoma

There is a good reason you keep hearing about DOA and their breakfast, it is unmatched by any breakfast you'll find in town. Hands down the most delicious way to start your day here in Tacoma. You can go for traditional with something like a two egg breakfast or belgium waffle or really do it up with a few dishes that are a culinary adventure.

Like, the Toad in the Hole for instance. My go to, because let's face it it's so delicious. They start with a cinnamon roll and hashbrowns, two staples of yum right there and top it all off with a poached egg, crispy bacon and Jack Daniels caramel sauce. Salty, savory, sweet. In my mouth, pronto.

My friend Amy opted for the Stuffed Pancake. Love hashbrowns and bacon and syrup? Well it's all INSIDE this gynormous flapjack.

And don't ask me where the gal puts it all, but this is the after photo......she conquered that thing like she was a UFC fighter.

Connect on Facebook

Originally intended for my Thrifty Thursday roots here on the Duchess Blog. Got Metal is an awesome concept.
All of those things you have lying around, water heaters, washers, dryers, car parts, excersize equipment, computers....METAL that you would otherwise add to the landfill or leave in your garage until the dreaded day you have to find something to do with it, yea that stuff, we all have it. Get rid of it!
Got Metal? Inc will take your stuff, working or not for FREE. If you don't have the wheels to commute the stuff to the site they offer a pick-up service for $20 a visit, or anything over 500 pounds of items is free pick-up.
They then send the stuff to another site to be shredded and made into new steel/metal. Doing good for the Earth while uncluttering the home front. Who's a rockstar?
That's right, YOU ARE.

Until next weeks adventure in local shopping, xo
