Every third Thursday at 6 pm I take a bus load of people around Tacoma to look at art. I always bring along a celebrity tour guide. In May, we were honored to have our Mayor as the tour guide. We had a really fun time and she did a great job. Here are some snapshots I took along the way.

I bought this pendant that night at Laughing Lotus. My friend Linda Danforth, who is a jewelry artist, is going to make a necklace out of this for me. I plan to wear Ganesha whenever I need insurmountable obstacles removed.

This painting by Stephanie Snyder was purchased that night from Laughing Lotus by Sonia and Michael Jewell. The dragonfly mixed with the Day of the Dead theme has very special meaning for them.

This is one of three raffle prizes. This was the food prize, it had gift certificates to several local eateries in it including Masa/Asado, Maxwells, Bubble Tea, Anthem Coffee, Smooth & Juicey and more.

This is one of three raffle prizes.This was the wine picnic basket. The top prize (not pictured) was an overnight stay with deluxe accommodations at Courtyard Marriott with free passes to Museum of Glass and the Tacoma Art Museum.


We had a GREAT night! The next tour is June 21st. Our celebrity tour guide is Pierce County Councilman Tim Farrell and we are doing a photo scavenger hunt for those with a digital camera and Facebook! What's in a name? Who are the Jossy's and where did they come from?

I decided to research my Jossy Patriarchal line as far back as I could. I made it all the way back to the 1300s and along the way I learned some things. For one thing my last name has evolved over time. My father spelled his last name Jossy but a few generations back they spelled it Jossi. Go back a few more and it becomes von Jossa. This journey took me from Washington State to Oregon to Switzerland and eventually Germany. I also learned that the "von" represents nobility.  I also noticed that they repeated the same first names a lot. There were a lot of Peter's for example. Peter is a very old name. The people of ancient Greece used it and its said to mean "rock." Of course Peter was also one of the disciples of Jesus which is probably where most people know it from but Peter the disciple was nick-named that by Jesus. While following my Patriarchal line, I noticed that my last name evolved over time - the last change I can't yet find but I found some hints. As I explained in my last blog seemed that around 1100 AD we may have been named after a river. Or the river may have been named after us. All I know is that we were both there with the name Jossa around that time. I can't trace the name beyond that point. They were obviously wealthy because they built castles and had "von" in front of the name which indicated Lordship.  I read also that German last names can mean their original occupation but it can also indicate the place where they are from. Several times while reading about the von Jossa's, they also called them "von Jasza" and this confused me.  I also learned that they used to name rivers after their Gods. Was the Jossa river named after an old Pagan God? Probably not. I see no evidence of this. Then I ran across a old map of Europe that had a place named Jas...

Elon Musk isn't the only one interested in the underground

I've always been fascinated with tunnels. As a young girl I went spelunking on a school field trip through several caves in the Ozark Mountains. I couldn't tell you where exactly but I vividly remember one cave that we had to go down through a small opening down into a huge cavern where we camped inside for the night. It was as big as a football field. Another cave we had to wade through red clay almost knee deep. As an adult I visited Montana and we went into a small narrow cave just tall enough to walk upright and narrow enough to be able to touch both sides of the cave with my hands. Probably to the annoyance of my companions, I couldn't help but to sing as we walked because the sound was so amazing in there. Cave resonance I learned recently is a real thing and can be very powerful at healing and accessing our third eye spirituality.
