Welcome to the Duchess of Downtown Tacoma Blog

I created this blog out of love for a city that doesn't seem to love itself. Downtown Tacoma is full of urban pioneers who keep brilliant little shops open despite a lack of spotlight on their greatness. When people think of quaint little shopping areas they usually thing of someplace like Poulsbo or Port Townsend but downtown Tacoma and its neighbors 6th Avenue, Stadium District, Bridge District and Proctor District just to name a few, have some really incredible small shops that are very deserving of your attention.

I do a tour of art exhibits every Third Thursday called ART BUS and this often takes us into little shops and galleries and people always say, "Wow! I never knew this was here!"

This blog will provide self-directed tours you can take at your leisure to visit some of Tacoma's hidden gems.

  1. Dear Duchess, Great local blog! I have a question for you. What happened to the salmon? There use to be salmon (art, not real ones!) in this fountain. I miss them!
