Fashion Friday (July 6th, 2012) - Shop Pacific Ave.

TGIF!!  We got some great places on Pacific Ave near UW Tacoma this week. Of course, as promised, we have items from Bleach in today's blog. We also want to introduce a new spot that maybe you haven't heard about yet. Catwalk, a new pop-up art and fashion shop is now open on Pacific Ave and has a lots of original designs that you might just fall in love with!

If you want to go for a urban look and represent Tacoma this is the place for you. They always have something new. 

Our June Fashion Icon JD Elquist modeled these shorts and a nautical Tacoma shirt for us and he offers the following fashion advice for guys: Instead of wearing your shorts low, go for a more professional and mature look with them above your knee. Also, if you plan on wearing the same color shirt and pants you can add dimension by rolling up your sleeves.

I personally love this shirt because its a cross between the City of Tacoma logo and the Paramount logo.

Catwalk opened its doors last month and will hold this space (formally BKB Gallery) until its rented. Its a place where several designers and artists to sell their items to the public. When you go in you will enjoy not only lovely locally made clothes but also paintings and locally created designer jewelry.

Cashmere tank tops by designer Beth Nielsen. Perfect for work or a night out on the town. Currently there are three different colors to choose from.

 This gorgeous necklace by Linda Danforth will go with any look you are trying  to accomplish.

An CBC (Chelsia Berry) sweater shirt. Perfect fit with a tank top, if you want something cool to wear to work.

This is one of my favorite pieces in Catwalk right now. This is a Bo Chambers creation. Its a sleeveless long sweater with its own scarf attached and a plaid collared shirt underneath. Its great for our unpredictable summer weather.

Every time I go into Catwalk my eyes go straight to these beaded shawls. They are the perfect addition to a summer wardrobe. With 4 different prints the designer L BO (Bo Chambers) really knows how to catch the eye.

I adore these simple vintage designs by designer Beth Nielsen. This tank top is a new twist on a wardrobe basic.

What's in a name? Who are the Jossy's and where did they come from?

I decided to research my Jossy Patriarchal line as far back as I could. I made it all the way back to the 1300s and along the way I learned some things. For one thing my last name has evolved over time. My father spelled his last name Jossy but a few generations back they spelled it Jossi. Go back a few more and it becomes von Jossa. This journey took me from Washington State to Oregon to Switzerland and eventually Germany. I also learned that the "von" represents nobility.  I also noticed that they repeated the same first names a lot. There were a lot of Peter's for example. Peter is a very old name. The people of ancient Greece used it and its said to mean "rock." Of course Peter was also one of the disciples of Jesus which is probably where most people know it from but Peter the disciple was nick-named that by Jesus. He was born with the name Simon and I found that name in my Patriarchal line too.  Simon is also an ancient name. It means " hearkening or

Elon Musk isn't the only one interested in the underground

I've always been fascinated with tunnels. As a young girl I went spelunking on a school field trip through several caves in the Ozark Mountains. I couldn't tell you where exactly but I vividly remember one cave that we had to go down through a small opening down into a huge cavern where we camped inside for the night. It was as big as a football field. Another cave we had to wade through red clay almost knee deep. As an adult I visited Montana and we went into a small narrow cave just tall enough to walk upright and narrow enough to be able to touch both sides of the cave with my hands. Probably to the annoyance of my companions, I couldn't help but to sing as we walked because the sound was so amazing in there. Cave resonance I learned recently is a real thing and can be very powerful at healing and accessing our third eye spirituality.
