Shop Til You Drop, Sea Salts Goodness, Rosewood Offerings and Monday Night Football

Another un-themed version of some of what Tacoma has to offer. When it comes down to it, it's not all about talking about local shopping and business owners, it's about SUPPORTING them.

This last weekend Opera Alley hosted a magnificent gathering of local vendors and shop owners in a faux Paris Market. Among the tented goods you could find art, clothes, food and above all else good company with some of the brilliant minds in Tacoma. At one end, next to this mural was the great Eiffel Tower, park benches and nibbles and wine to be indulged in.

I was in need of some more salts from Libertine Tacoma! Christy Reedy manages some of the most tasty and magnificent salt blends. I have a modest collection compared to the 50+ blends and flavors Libertine Tacoma offers and can't get enough. While she includes information cards with suggestions on food and drink pairings for each flavor experimenting is encouraged and full of reward.

The packaging itself is uber rad. Scientific beakers of different sorts, traveling tins and all environment friendly refillable containers add a little spunk to the kitchen decor. I had to snag the Trifecta Blend first and foremost, it's the talk of the town and used at local digs such as Old Milwuakee Cafe. I also snagged the Taste of France, a delightful blend of marjoram, thyme, savory, rosemary, lavender, fennel, dried shallots and sel de guerande french grey sea salt. The aroma of the shallots, lavender and thyme is absolutely decadent. I can't wait to use this with a dish!!!

Rosewood Cafe
3323 N. 26th Stree, Tacoma

Located in the outskirts of the Proctor District, the Rosewood Cafe offers good eats in an intimate and friendly atmosphere. Though the establishment has traded hands in the last year it has maintained integrity in the menu with fresh ingredients and a lovely wine and beer selection. Their smoked cheddar and bacon mac is tasty. Cheesy, bacon-y goodness, though it could have stood for more seasoning in my opinion. Smart, since many are sensitive to seasoning it makes the dish more approachable, but boring to others. Of course you can't go wrong with bacon and cheese so overall it's a winner, just grab the salt and pepper shakers.

They do however carry the Note Book Red Blend which I find DELIGHTFUL.

Also their Pot du Chocolate Creme is rich, decadent and smooth. The tart berry drizzle adds a nice balance and touch of color. Always a winner in my book and though small, definitely shareable thanks to the richness. Worth the bellyache if you choose not to share.

Pint Defiance
2049 Mildred Street W, University Place

If there is anything I can say about owner/operator Barry Watson, besides the fact that him and his wife are genuinely nice, rad folks, it's that the man knows his beer!
Lucky for us they have just opened Pint Defiance. Specialty beers and taproom in one. You can fill up a growler, buy bottles of your favorite brews or just sit down to have a cold one. Though it serves as a retail space they also serve beer so it is a 21+ establishment.
Beer lovers, this is a must visit. The staff is friendly and knowledgable and can make suggestions based on your hops loving tendencies.

And really, what's better than a couple of growlers for Monday Night Football???? YUM. I opted for the SilverCity Stout, right up my alley. While my hubby snagged an IPA.

They don't call them the magic sandwich makers for nothing. Located in a questionable looking little building on 6th, you'd just as soon drive by then pop in. But let me tell you that MSM knows how to do the deli sandwich. Fresh hoagie rolls, sliced meats and veggies, it's just plain good. AND was the perfect accompaniment to our Pint Defiance brews for MNF.

If I keep up at this rate I'll have to do an edition on elastic banded clothing because there is just too much culinary finds here in Tacoma.

XOXO,
