Home Decor Tuesday (July 31st) Throwing Mud

Is there anything more rewarding than a project to improve the home paired with a newly learned craft? Like when you invest yourself into it and lo and behold, there is an actual finished product? Not to mention the sense of pride that comes with a job well done. Who doesn't love that feeling? Well done you!

In my pursuit of local courses and workshops I came across Throwing Mud Gallery. Located in the heart of Old Town on North 30th. They have hand-made goods from all over the Pacific Northwest including jewelery, teapots, goblets and other stylish home accessories. Whether you want to spend $10 or have thousands to splurge - plenty to choose from.

Amongst all of these gorgeous wares there happens to also be a pottery studio that provides classes!

Recognize the window front?

Here we see pottery wheels lined by stools - enough seats for 7 people per class. Classes include wheel and /or hand-building courses. They also offer open studio time for those who like to practice. You can do clay, glazes and firing all for a measly $160. Tool kits can be purchased on site as well. Each class is a 6 week program. Available course days may differ due to holidays and changing seasons. Feeling some anxiety on whether or not it's for you? Throwing Mud Gallery also offers a "Try It" class that gives you 2 hours of on-hand instruction for only $50.

Lots of pieces almost there.

Loads of variety in students finished pieces. Everyone starts with a bowl as a refresher or starting point, then is allowed some creative freedom or can choose to begin projects that do not require the pottery wheel.

In the gallery/retail area I spotted these divine earrings! I'll be going back to scoop up a pair or two..

This set really spoke to me. So much fluid contrast. Apparently this artist has been featured on the cover of a major pottery mag. There are over 65 featured merchants inside the Throwing Mud space, most of which are from Washington or Oregon.

Again, jewelery!! I love, love, love these copper cuffs made by an artist from the PNW.

Lovely outdoor lantern.
While the owner, Eileen Hudak, and I were journeying through the gallery she shared some of her thoughts about the art and their mission. One of her favorite quotes went something like this: "Some say that handcrafted means it was touched by hand sometime during manufacturing but others say it means that, that something did not exist until a hand touched it." I like that very much.

I'm hoping to get in to a "Try It" class to fill my curiosity before the next 6 week course starts. Anyone interested in joining me? Let's do this!

Please visit Throwing Mud Gallery and discover some treasure (fingers crossed you don't want the same earrings I'm eying before I get in there again).

XOXO,

Lady Jacqueline
