Menu Item Monday (Aug. 27th 2012) Masa, 6th Ave Market and PG's Anniversary Party

I simply adore summer in Tacoma. So many wonderful events give me lots of opportunities to see my favorite people. I felt like I spent a lot of time at home working but looking back through my photos for the week I realized I was still quite social!

Last Tuesday I visited 6th Avenue and had a lovely rooftop dinner with some of my favorite ladies. We feasted on Masa's delicious happy hour tacos. See pictures below:

This happened earlier today. If I'd published this yesterday this would have made  more sense but I made this little poster for them so I wanted to include it anyway. Isn't it cute? I believe it was Drew, the director of the market who made this carrocature.

Pacific Grill celebrated their 7 year anniversary Monday night and that is the main reason for the delay of this blog. I wanted to include the following pictures so I was waiting until I returned home to do it. But after such a busy day on only 4 hours sleep and wonderful food and 2 jello shots at the party, I simply didn't have it in me to put it all together before bed. It was a great night and I wish I had taken more photos. Thankfully Weekly Volcano publisher Ron Swarner offered his services and provided us with all of these pictures except one. I'm sorry that I don't know the names of all the dishes served to us. I can only tell you that they were all exquisite and if you weren't there, you should put next year's celebration on your calendar now so that you'll be sure not to miss it. It was the social event of the season!

What's in a name? Who are the Jossy's and where did they come from?

I decided to research my Jossy Patriarchal line as far back as I could. I made it all the way back to the 1300s and along the way I learned some things. For one thing my last name has evolved over time. My father spelled his last name Jossy but a few generations back they spelled it Jossi. Go back a few more and it becomes von Jossa. This journey took me from Washington State to Oregon to Switzerland and eventually Germany. I also learned that the "von" represents nobility.  I also noticed that they repeated the same first names a lot. There were a lot of Peter's for example. Peter is a very old name. The people of ancient Greece used it and its said to mean "rock." While following my Patriarchal line, I noticed that my last name evolved over time - the last change I can't yet find but I found some hints. As I explained in my last blog seemed that around 1100 AD we may have been named after a river. Or the river may have been named after us. All I know is that we were both there with the name Jossa around that time. I can't trace the name beyond that point. They were obviously wealthy because they built castles and had "von" in front of the name which indicated Lordship.  I read also that German last names can mean their original occupation but it can also indicate the place where they are from. Several times while reading about the von Jossa's, they also called them "von Jasza" and this confused me.  I also learned that they used to name rivers after their Gods. Elon Musk isn't the only one interested in the underground

I've always been fascinated with tunnels. As a young girl I went spelunking on a school field trip through several caves in the Ozark Mountains. I couldn't tell you where exactly but I vividly remember one cave that we had to go down through a small opening down into a huge cavern where we camped inside for the night. It was as big as a football field. Another cave we had to wade through red clay almost knee deep. As an adult I visited Montana and we went into a small narrow cave just tall enough to walk upright and narrow enough to be able to touch both sides of the cave with my hands. Probably to the annoyance of my companions, I couldn't help but to sing as we walked because the sound was so amazing in there. Cave resonance I learned recently is a real thing and can be very powerful at healing and accessing our third eye spirituality.
