I've been  busy little bee this week without much time to visit restaurants but I did make time to grab a smoothie at Smooth & Juicey and eat Tacoma's most expensive hamburger.

Many changes and renovations have been going on here. Note the new awning and other nice new additions.

Now you order from the center of the room.



And they are selling coffee themselves now instead of sharing the space with another business.
One other notable change is the Market on Market next door in the same building. I didn't make it there this week after the opening but I hope to have some photos of that next week. :)

This event already happened but the flier gives you a good idea of what it's all about.

Since this is arguably the most expensive burger in Tacoma, you might be tempted to skip it but here's a tip for you: This sucker is huge. I ate half of one and was quite full. Go to El Gaucho during happy hour with a friend. Tell the waiter you want to split one. They bring in already cut and you each have your own plate of french fries. You'll each pay $5.00 because this burger is half price during happy hour. You're welcome! :)

What's in a name? Who are the Jossy's and where did they come from?

I decided to research my Jossy Patriarchal line as far back as I could. I made it all the way back to the 1300s and along the way I learned some things. For one thing my last name has evolved over time. My father spelled his last name Jossy but a few generations back they spelled it Jossi. Go back a few more and it becomes von Jossa. This journey took me from Washington State to Oregon to Switzerland and eventually Germany. While following my Patriarchal line, I noticed that my last name evolved over time - the last change I can't yet find but I found some hints. As I explained in my last blog seemed that around 1100 AD we may have been named after a river. Or the river may have been named after us. All I know is that we were both there with the name Jossa around that time. I can't trace the name beyond that point. They were obviously wealthy because they built castles and had "von" in front of the name which indicated Lordship.  I read also that German last names can mean their original occupation but it can also indicate the place where they are from. Several times while reading about the von Jossa's, they also called them "von Jasza" and this confused me.  I also learned that they used to name rivers after their Gods. Elon Musk isn't the only one interested in the underground

I've always been fascinated with tunnels. As a young girl I went spelunking on a school field trip through several caves in the Ozark Mountains. I couldn't tell you where exactly but I vividly remember one cave that we had to go down through a small opening down into a huge cavern where we camped inside for the night. It was as big as a football field. Another cave we had to wade through red clay almost knee deep. As an adult I visited Montana and we went into a small narrow cave just tall enough to walk upright and narrow enough to be able to touch both sides of the cave with my hands. Probably to the annoyance of my companions, I couldn't help but to sing as we walked because the sound was so amazing in there.
